Master Classic Courses

 

With exclusive sponsorship from the TSMC Education & Culture Foundation, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) established the Kenneth Hsien-Yung Pai Literature Lectures at NTHU. These are jointly planned by the Center for General Education, the Department of Chinese Literature, and the Center for Language Education. Since the second semester of the 2019 academic year, the following general education courses have been offered: “Dream of the Red Chamber” (second semester, 2019), “Selected Readings from Chinese Cultural Classics” (second semester, 2020), “Classic Chinese and Western Novels” (second semester, 2021), “Cultural Memory and Reconstruction” (first semester, 2023), and “Literature × Cinema Duet” (first semester, 2024). In the first semester of 2025, the course “Exploring the Polyphony of Gender Literature” will be introduced.

In the 2021 academic year, NTHU collaborated for the first time with the Guoguang Opera Company to offer the course “New Aesthetics of Jingju: Exploration and Experiences”. A series of general education electives were subsequently introduced, including 2021 second semester’s “New Aesthetics of Jingju: Basic Training”, 2022 first semester’s “New Aesthetics of Jingju: Acting for Beginners”, 2022 second semester’s “New Aesthetics of Jingju: Four Main Skills of Performance”, 2023 first semester’s “New Aesthetics of Jingju: Four Skills in Performing and Five Acting Rules”, 2023 second semester’s “New Aesthetics of Jingju: Stage Performance”, 2024 first semester’s “New Aesthetics of Jingju: Basic Training”, 2024 second semester’s “New Aesthetics of Jingju: Exploration and Experiences”, and 2025 first semester’s “New Aesthetics of Jingju: Acting for Beginners”. All courses are taught by specialized artists from the Guoguang Opera Company, guiding students to experience the beauty of Jingju (Peking opera) and learn its movements, vocal styles, and performance techniques.
