General Education Credit Transfer

(1) GE Credit Transfer for Transfer Students / Re-enrolled Students

To review applications for “General Education (GE) credit transfer for transfer students and re-enrolled students” each semester, the Center takes into account the significant differences among universities in course content, training focus, and learning requirements. Students must therefore provide the official course syllabus of the course they wish to transfer, which must include the weekly teaching schedule. When necessary, students may also be asked to provide course materials that demonstrate actual participation in the class, to facilitate the Center’s evaluation of whether the course may be counted toward GE credit.

Courses submitted for GE credit transfer must be GE courses offered by the original institution, and the attached syllabus must bear the official seal of the General Education Center (or equivalent unit) at the original institution. Application periods follow the announcements made by the Division of Registration, and students should take note of deadlines and cooperate accordingly.

(2) For GE credit transfer, students must comply with National Tsing Hua University’s Division of Registration requirement to submit the application within one month of returning to Taiwan. Students should complete the “Credit Transfer Application Form,” attach the official transcript or grade certificate issued by the host institution, and submit all documents to the Center for General Education for review. Students also have to attach the official course syllabus of each course for which credit transfer is requested. The course must be a GE course offered by the host institution in order to be eligible for recognition as GE credit at NTHU. Relevant course materials and grade documents must also be provided for verification. Because countries differ significantly in course content, training structure, and learning requirements, it is difficult to determine GE credit equivalency without sufficient course-related information or evidence of the student’s actual participation in the course. Students are therefore reminded to prepare the required documents carefully and cooperate with the review process.

(3) GE Credit Transfer for Inter-University Course Enrollment

Because universities differ significantly in course content, training approaches, and course requirements, it is difficult to determine GE credit equivalency without adequate course-related information and evidence of the student’s actual participation in the class. Students are therefore reminded to prepare the required documents and cooperate with the review process. For students who wish to apply during the add/drop period to take a course at another university and have it counted toward NTHU’s GE credits, please note that the review process requires sufficient time. Students should therefore comply with the following guidelines:

  1. Submit the application to the Center for General Education no later than 7 days before the end of NTHU’s add/drop period. (Students should also check and comply with the application deadlines announced by the host institution to avoid missing the cutoff.)
  2. Prepare and submit the following documents: (1) Inter-University Course Enrollment Application Form; (2) Official course syllabus. (The course offered by the host institution must be a GE course in order to be eligible for GE credit transfer at NTHU.)

(4) Preparatory Steps Before Becoming an Exchange Student or Enrolling in Inter-University Courses

For GE credit transfer applications related to domestic inter-university course enrollment, domestic exchange programs, or international exchange programs, students may request a pre-review before taking the course. Students who wish to do so should prepare the required documents, including the official course syllabus and the Credit Transfer Application Form (for exchange students) or the Inter-University Course Enrollment Application Form (for inter-university course selection)—in advance.

You are welcome to submit these documents to the Center for General Education before taking the course to confirm whether the course may be recognized for GE credit and to determine the corresponding GE area. This will greatly assist you in planning your study schedule.
