Self-Director Learning Courses

Course Description

The Center for General Education has launched the “self-directed learning” program to encourage students to take initiative in developing and planning their own learning projects. This course aims to foster cross-disciplinary integration and practical application, creating a “student-centered” learning space. Key features of the course include:

  • In the “self-directed learning” course, students are encouraged to explore their personal interests and take the lead in crafting a learning plan of their own. This plan may go beyond existing courses and demonstrate interdisciplinary integration and practical application.
  • The objective of the “self-directed learning” course is to open up a new “student-centered” learning space in addition to the existing “curriculum-based” and “teacher-centered” approaches, thereby enriching and diversifying learning models.

We encourage all students to take part! For more details, please refer to the Guidelines for Self-Directed Learning.

How to Apply

Announcement for Self-Directed Learning Applications for the Second Semester of Academic Year 114: Students are advised to consult the “Guidelines for Self-Directed Learning”, prepare the required project proposal, and identify a faculty advisor based on the project’s field and theme. Advisors may come from the university, external institutions, or industry, provided their relevant expertise is clearly stated. If needed, the Center for General Education may appoint additional faculty members as co-advisors.
Once the proposal is completed and signed by the advisor, submit both a hard copy and an electronic copy of the proposal along with the list of recommended advisors to the Center for General Education by Friday, December 12, 2025. After review and approval by the Center’s Curriculum Committee, students will be granted permission to enroll in the course.

Note: The eligibility for the self-directed learning course has been expanded. Undergraduate students may join the program from the second semester of their first year through the second semester of their fourth year, meaning students from the first semester of freshman year to the first semester of senior year are all eligible to apply.
