2025 Professor Hsien-Liang Koo Memorial Lecture for the Center of General Education

To honor Professor Hsien-Liang Koo’s contributions to art and general education, we are launching the inaugural "Professor Hsien-Liang Koo Memorial Lecture for the Center of General Education " series this year. The event will feature a themed panel discussion, "The Four Masters  of Modern Taiwanese Sculpture—From Huang Tu-shui, Yuyu Yang, and Ju Ming to Li Kuang-yu," along with a documentary screening and a guided sculpture tour. Through these activities, we aim to delve into the historical development and cultural significance of modern Taiwanese sculpture.

The keynote lecture will feature Professor Hsiao Chiungjui, , Honorary Professor of History at National Cheng Kung University, . Professor Hsiao will explore the artistic achievements and historical impact of the four renowned sculptors: Huang Tu-shui, Yuyu Yang, Ju Ming, and Li Kuang-yu.

Following the screening of the documentary " MY MENTOR MY FATHER " a post-screening discussion will be held, featuring Bhikkhuni Kuan Chien, Mr. Yuyu Yang’s daughter, Abbot of Yonghsiu Monastery, and Chairman of the Jue-Feng Buddhist Art and Culture Foundation, along with Professor Wang Ya-wei from National Chengchi University’s Department of Radio and Television. Together, they will provide in-depth insights into  Yuyu Yang’s creative journey and artistic philosophy through both film and discussion.

Additionally, the event will include a sculpture tour of Yuyu Yang’s works on the campuses of National Tsing Hua University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. Leading the tour will be designer Yang Chun, the eldest grandson of Yuyu Yang and a board member of the Yuyu Yang Art Education Foundation. Participants will have the opportunity to appreciate Yang’s sculptures firsthand and experience his unique artistic style and spatial aesthetics.

By combining academic discussions, documentary screenings, and on-site tours, this event seeks to deepen public understanding of modern Taiwanese sculpture and its cultural value. We warmly invite all art and culture enthusiasts to join us in this meaningful experience.
