Migration and Companion Animals: Hong Kong Families Who Migrated to the UK after 2019

2. Introduction

In Hong Kong, approximately 9.4 out of every 100 households keep cats or dogs. What happened to these companion animals amid the wave of migration that began in 2019? From a cultural anthropological perspective, this lecture draws on in-depth interviews to explore the processes of migration undertaken by both people and their companion animals, as well as the broader social implications of these journeys.
